Desiigner Drops “Tiimmy Turner 2” After Entering Mental Health Facility, Raps About ‘Fighting Demons’
About 10 days after checking himself into a mental health facility, Desiigner celebrated his 26th birthday by updating fans on his condition. In addition, the Brooklyn-born rapper dropped “Tiimmy Turner 2,” the sequel to the 2016 track that helped launch him alongside “Panda.”
“I turned 26 today and I want to thank you’ll for holding me down,” Desiigner wrote in a statement posted on his social media pages. “I admitted myself into a facility last week to focus on my mental health. But before that, I had planned to release TIIMMY TURNER 2 this week as a surprise to my fans. I recorded this joint a while ago and it reflects on where I’ve been mentally over the past year.”
Desiigner continued, “As my birthday gift to y’all I asked my team to put the song out this Friday,” he continued. “Sorry I can’t promote it the way I like to cause I’m off the grid, but I just want to give you some new music while I take time away to become a better me.”
Desiigner ended his message by assuring fans he plans on coming back from his current situation stronger than ever, and plans to “make more music that connects with all of you on a deeper level.”
“I’m going through a tough time right now but i won’t let my struggles define who i am,” wrote the former G.O.O.D. Music artist. “For those of you dealing with any mental health issues, it’s okay to ask for help.”
He also shared a screenshot of some of the lyrics, written in the Notes app, on Instagram. The chorus speaks on “fighting my demons” and “paranoid thoughts” making him unable to “trust anyone.”
Desiigner’s new song arrives after the rapper was charged with indecent exposure for allegedly exposing himself on a plane back in April. He subsequently took to Instagram to share a statement in which he apologized for his actions.
“For the past few months I have not been ok, and I have been struggling to come to terms with what is going on,” he wrote. “While overseas for a concert I performed at, I had to be admitted into a hospital, I was not thinking clearly. They gave me meds, and I had to hop on a plane home. I am ashamed of the actions that happened on that plane. I landed back in the States, and am admitting myself in a facility to help me. I will be cancelling all of my shows and any obligations until further notice. Mental health is real guys, please pray for me. If you’re not feeling like yourself please get help.”
Days later, Desiigner confirmed he’d be admitting himself into a mental health program.
“Going in facility today,” he captioned an Instagram Stories video early last week. “Thanks for all the prayers.”
