#GillyWeb GOSSIP: UK-based Ghanaian with 2 vaginas, 2 wombs opens up on condition

Published

on

It may probably sound like a fairy tale to hear there exists a woman who has more than one vagina and one womb, but Elizabeth Amoah has lived with this condition for quite some time and has now decided to let the world know about it.

Speaking on 3FM’s Drive with Giovani Caleb over the week Elizabeth, also known as ‘Special Lady’, disclosed she has had to undergo seven medical surgeries after she was diagnosed of having sexual complications.

“I discovered I had a double womb and a double vagina canal in 2015 after an MRI scan, so I had to undergo about 7 surgeries,” she told Giovani Caleb.

The scan, according to her, also detected she had Endometriosis: a sexual disorder in which tissues linings of the uterus grows outside the uterus.

She explained having a double vagina means “having one vagina outside and the other inside”.

She added that the double womb usually does not come with any symptoms but rather exposes one to health challenges such as irregular periods, fibroids, irregular fainting and in some instances cause infertility.

“I had a premature baby after four years of not conceiving, and going through such health situations wasn’t easy,” she said.

She noted the condition is not common in women, saying “research says it can be found in one out of 350 women and the person might not even know she has it”.

Having gone through the ordeal, Elizabeth is currently back to Ghana to kick start a campaign dubbed “The Unspoken Topics”, a project she with her Special Lady Foundation plans to use as a tool in educating women, especially young ladies, on female reproductive health challenges.

Commencing a project which will engage young ladies in Ghana on the health challenges women go through reproductively, the Foundation will on Sunday, April 14, 2019 start the campaign at the Nima Berlin Bridge at 2pm.

The project is expected to receive 400 women both young and old for an encounter with Elizabeth Amoah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Special Lady Foundation.

One million cubic metres of waste removed from Odaw and Korle Lagoon

Published

on

Over a million cubic metres of various waste materials have been removed from the choking Odaw storm drain and the Korle Lagoon in Accra since February this year as part of measures by government to reduce flooding in most parts of the city.

Engineers and workers of Dredge Masters Limited have since February this year been at the two sites, which have become a receptacle for a chunk of Accra’s waste, de-silting the drainage system and the lagoon.

On the back of Monday’s rains that caused some flooding in parts of Accra, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday visited the sites to inspect the progress of work on the dredging on the Odaw drains

He was taken round by the Hydrological Engineer of Dredge Masters, Ing.Wise Ametefe and shown the new designs by Dredge Masters to overhaul the Odaw drain and the Korle Lagoon into a beautiful tourism asset to attract tourists and boost business activities in the area.

The President was impressed about the work done so far by the contractors of the project.

The dredging exercise is being carried out day and night in a bid to restore the efficiency and holding capacity of the drainage to be able to contain the volume of water, especially when it rains. This will avoid flooding.

The is being done in line with a two-year contract signed between the government and Dredge Masters in February 2019 for the dredging and maintenance of the Odaw drainage system and the Korle Lagoon.

Per the contract, Dredge Masters, which is a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies, is required to redesign and construct the Korle Lagoon Ecological Restoration Project (KLERP) interceptor and breakwater at the outfall within the next two years.

The channel under the scope starts from the Odaw Onyasia confluence at Carprice in Accra, through Avenor, Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, Agbogbloshie, South Kaneshie drain and, the upper and lower Lagoon.

Operations Manager of Dredge Masters, Ing. Sena Adiepena, told the President Nana Akufo-Addo that prior to commencement of the exercise, squatters along the drains were evicted with assistance of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and the Ghana Police Service.

He assured the President that they were working around the clock to complete the work on time to save lives and properties.

Dredge Masters first begun operations in June 2016, a year after the June 3 disaster at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle that claimed several lives and destroyed property.

It initially secured a two-year contract awarded by the government under John Dramani Mahama for the de-silting and dredging of the Odaw channel and restoration of the Korle Lagoon to avert under the Accra Sanitary Sewer Storm Drainage Alleviation Project.

Ing. Adiepena told journalists works under the initial contract was completed in March 2017 as designs on civil works are still ongoing.

We didn’t swap Aisha Huang for $2bn loan – Natural Resources Minister

Published

on

Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh has flatly rejected the assertion that galamsey kingpin, Aisha Huang, was deported in exchange for the two billion dollars Sinohydro loan.

He was emphatic on Thursday that the loan arrangement was never tied to the Aisha Huang’s case.

“With respect to the 194 foreigners that have been deported, the exact figures dealing with them as per particular nationals cannot be given now, but the nationals that have been deported include Chinese, Indians, Nigerians, Malians, and Burkinabes.

“So, it is not only Chinese that have been deported, neither is it only Aisha Huang that has been deported for purposes of Sinohydro loan or purposes of Sinohydro agreement that the government of Ghana has with the Chinese government. And we did not sacrifice her or exchange her for the loan”.

The Chinese national was arrested in 2017 for her involvement in several illegal mining activities popularly known as galamsey when government reignited its anti-galamsey operation.

Aisha Huang was prosecuted but the case did not go the full haul; it was discontinued by government and she and her accomplices were deported.

Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh said the decision to discontinue the court case was a prerogative of the Attorney General, and such powers vested in the AG cannot be questioned.

He asserted that the Attorney General is at will to enter nolle prosequi in any criminal case without being answerable to anybody.

Government received backlash for that decision on Aisha Huang but Senior Minister, Mr. Osafo Maafo defended the deportation at a recent event in the United States of America which made the controversy even murkier.

“Putting that lady (Aisha) in jail in Ghana is not going to solve your economic problems. It is not going to make you happy or me happy, that’s not important, the most important thing is that she has been deported out of Ghana,” he said in a widely circulated video.

Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh at the meet-the-press series on Thursday mounted a strong defense for government’s decision, arguing that Gloria Akuffo, who is the AG, cannot even be questioned on that decision by the judge sitting on the case nor the Chief Justice, let alone lawyers.

He said the action was purely legal and grounded in law, stressing that the laws of the country were not in any way offended by government’s decision.

According to the minister, there has been a precedent in the past where government entered a nolle prosequi in a criminal case, insisting the laws of the country were not circumvented.

However, opponents of government’s action have not raised any legal argument, their concerns have purely been based on the morality of the justification the Senior Minister assigned to it.
