Prior to the announcement of “12 pm in Kantamanto” on 7th March 2019 was the buzz on social media of tweets and photos of Cymple, the stylist, posing on the streets of Accra with the theme “SAD”.
“SAD” became a concept one Saturday when the popular stylist, Cymple, roamed the streets of Kantamanto, the fashion hub in Ghana, observing the movements and activities of people in town.
Kantamanto is a daily busy flea market filled with brand new clothes and shoes, store rejects and second-hand outfits where most Ghanaians shop at lower prices. Out there under the scorching sun, he saw people in his field transport clothes or bolts of fabric on their heads and on trolleys, sellers calling out to customers, some shoving Artifacts in the faces of customers, others pulling their customers into their stalls or shops or table tops, etc. He got the inspiration of working on a collection with everything bought from Kantamanto when he came across the tailors who carry their machines around and those who iron clothes in town, among others who did this to earn a living. In his eyes, it was a sad experience but from interacting with these people, he found out they were happy despite the daily hustle to get people clothes to wear, filling their pockets with some money to feed themselves and their families. “SAD” in his perspective, is beautiful in a weird way.
12 pm in Kantamanto is a runway fashion show put together by Cymple, and a few street brands in Ghana, such as Wae Originals, Tribe of God, Free the Youth and Vigi Force, to promote street fashion in Ghana and acknowledge the hard work of the men and women selling in Kantamanto. It is basically a display of street content. The fashion show comes off on 30th March 2019 at the Moni3 studios-Haatso at 6 pm with tickets going for 20cedis. Come through and let us support street fashion in Ghana.
We didn’t swap Aisha Huang for $2bn loan – Natural Resources Minister
Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh has flatly rejected the assertion that galamsey kingpin, Aisha Huang, was deported in exchange for the two billion dollars Sinohydro loan.
He was emphatic on Thursday that the loan arrangement was never tied to the Aisha Huang’s case.
“With respect to the 194 foreigners that have been deported, the exact figures dealing with them as per particular nationals cannot be given now, but the nationals that have been deported include Chinese, Indians, Nigerians, Malians, and Burkinabes.
“So, it is not only Chinese that have been deported, neither is it only Aisha Huang that has been deported for purposes of Sinohydro loan or purposes of Sinohydro agreement that the government of Ghana has with the Chinese government. And we did not sacrifice her or exchange her for the loan”.
The Chinese national was arrested in 2017 for her involvement in several illegal mining activities popularly known as galamsey when government reignited its anti-galamsey operation.
Aisha Huang was prosecuted but the case did not go the full haul; it was discontinued by government and she and her accomplices were deported.
Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh said the decision to discontinue the court case was a prerogative of the Attorney General, and such powers vested in the AG cannot be questioned.
He asserted that the Attorney General is at will to enter nolle prosequi in any criminal case without being answerable to anybody.
Government received backlash for that decision on Aisha Huang but Senior Minister, Mr. Osafo Maafo defended the deportation at a recent event in the United States of America which made the controversy even murkier.
“Putting that lady (Aisha) in jail in Ghana is not going to solve your economic problems. It is not going to make you happy or me happy, that’s not important, the most important thing is that she has been deported out of Ghana,” he said in a widely circulated video.
Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh at the meet-the-press series on Thursday mounted a strong defense for government’s decision, arguing that Gloria Akuffo, who is the AG, cannot even be questioned on that decision by the judge sitting on the case nor the Chief Justice, let alone lawyers.
He said the action was purely legal and grounded in law, stressing that the laws of the country were not in any way offended by government’s decision.
According to the minister, there has been a precedent in the past where government entered a nolle prosequi in a criminal case, insisting the laws of the country were not circumvented.
However, opponents of government’s action have not raised any legal argument, their concerns have purely been based on the morality of the justification the Senior Minister assigned to it.

BREAKING: We’re prepared to die for your victory in 2020 – Fishermen to Mahama
Fishermen in the Central Region have given Mahama the assurance that they are prepared to die for his victory in 2020 just to save them from the current hardship they are undergoing under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
They have therefore pledged to ensure that they campaign vigorously to ensure that he wins to better their fortunes because they have literally been out of business since he lost power in 2016 because the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has refused to continue some of the projects he initiated.
The Chief Fisherman of Apam, Ebusuapanyin Martey who spoke on behalf of the fishermen, expressed disappointment in the current government’s inability to provide them with enough premix fuel and subsidized outboard motors which was initiated by the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
According to him, the price increment of premix fuel and outboard motors has made their livelihood difficult and promised to do everything possible to bring Mahama back to power come 2020, saying “even if we need to go deep into the sea to bring Mahama back we will”.
Former President John Dramani Maham who was on a campaign tour of the Central Region last week was given the assurance by the fishermen when he visited Gomoa West with his entourage to interact with drivers, fishermen, market women as well as stakeholders to seek their votes ahead of the 2020 polls.
He expressed disappointment about the collapsing fishing industry under the incumbent government despite several promises it made promising to revamp it when he returns to power.
According to him, the relationship between the NDC and fishermen was tight which started from late President Prof John Evans Atta Mills.
“We are all aware about the untold economic hardship that the governing New Patriot Party (NPP) has brought to this country”, he said.
#GillyWeb GOSSIP: UK-based Ghanaian with 2 vaginas, 2 wombs opens up on condition
It may probably sound like a fairy tale to hear there exists a woman who has more than one vagina and one womb, but Elizabeth Amoah has lived with this condition for quite some time and has now decided to let the world know about it.
Speaking on 3FM’s Drive with Giovani Caleb over the week Elizabeth, also known as ‘Special Lady’, disclosed she has had to undergo seven medical surgeries after she was diagnosed of having sexual complications.
“I discovered I had a double womb and a double vagina canal in 2015 after an MRI scan, so I had to undergo about 7 surgeries,” she told Giovani Caleb.
The scan, according to her, also detected she had Endometriosis: a sexual disorder in which tissues linings of the uterus grows outside the uterus.
She explained having a double vagina means “having one vagina outside and the other inside”.
She added that the double womb usually does not come with any symptoms but rather exposes one to health challenges such as irregular periods, fibroids, irregular fainting and in some instances cause infertility.
“I had a premature baby after four years of not conceiving, and going through such health situations wasn’t easy,” she said.
She noted the condition is not common in women, saying “research says it can be found in one out of 350 women and the person might not even know she has it”.
Having gone through the ordeal, Elizabeth is currently back to Ghana to kick start a campaign dubbed “The Unspoken Topics”, a project she with her Special Lady Foundation plans to use as a tool in educating women, especially young ladies, on female reproductive health challenges.
Commencing a project which will engage young ladies in Ghana on the health challenges women go through reproductively, the Foundation will on Sunday, April 14, 2019 start the campaign at the Nima Berlin Bridge at 2pm.
The project is expected to receive 400 women both young and old for an encounter with Elizabeth Amoah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Special Lady Foundation.
